The Google search engine holds millions in its magical and mesmerizing web. Its power is so huge that a first page result is a dream come true.

Imagine walking into a library geographically the size of India or China or Russia or The United States of America? How ever are you going to walk through and find the book you want! It is almost impossible. But Google search engine makes it quick and easy in the virtual world.

Now imagine a virtual library spread across the world. How ever are you going to find a needed piece of information from who knows where it is actually located and stored in? But one of the most popular ways people reach there is through the Google search engine.

The way Google search engine gives you relevant results is fascinating and frightening at the same time. Think about algorithms that match your search strings to information or content that is available in time much less than a second. Yes Google search engine fascinates us with its speed almost like the speed of lightning.

Again Google search engine sometimes frighten us with the accuracy with which it suggests what we are actually looking for? “Does Google read minds?” you might wonder. How much optimization might be going on behind the screens to track your digital footprints to give suggestions like that! Amazing, isn’t it?

Let me conclude by saying that typing out a few words on Google or speaking it out on Google Assistant has become second nature to many. Searches are going to continue and Google is happily going to dig deep to bring you answers you are looking for in quick time.

Search Engine Optimization or SEO are a set of good and proven practices followed to edge your way to the topmost results on Search Engine Results Page (SERP). But many who try to make it to the first page focus on techniques while what they should be ideally focusing is on writing good quality content. There is no subsitute for this.

Let me end this talk on Mesmerizing Google Search with that very popluar saying, “The Best Place to Hide a Dead Body is Page Two of Google.” Though I cannot say for sure who said this first there is no better way to say how popular Google Search is!

God Give You the Grace to Overflow with Hope

Napoléon Bonaparte said, “A leader is a dealer in hope.” Martin Luther King spoke about the buoyancy of hope while Barak Obama wrote and spoke about the audacity of hope. Whatever it be, God is the source of all hope and he is the One who can cause you to abound in hope or overflow with hope.

St. Paul said that when childish things are put behind, among three things that remain one is hope. Yes, whatever be the context, hope is what you desperately need today.

We live in a time when hope itself is a scarce resource. People are not finding time to spend with God because they are too much distracted with what can be consumed on mobiles. Therefore they fail to plug in to the one source of all hope, God himself!

There is brokenness in relationships that is creating divides that take time to heal. Yes, hope is what you desperately need today.

Life from Ashes and Rise from the Dust

A day will soon come when Jesus will call the dead to life. And those who hear his voice will come back to life. Yes, life will come forth from ashes and people will awake and rise from the dust.

What is the meaning of this? And how does it apply to you?

One, God’s ultimate plan for you is life, not death. That means death is not The End but a new beginning with God whom you’ll see face to face. Therefore those who trust in Jesus and die are in their sleep and will rise one day. The time between death and new life will seem to them like the twinkling of an eye.

Yes, life will come forth from ashes and people will awake and rise from the dust.

Two, God does not forsake any who trust in him. When he says, no one will snatch you out of my hand¹, it means that no evil force or death can wrest you away from his love and out of his mighty hand. There is an eternal security you can find in God alone. Yes, “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” ²

Yes, life will come forth from ashes and people will awake and rise from the dust.

Three, God will wipe away your tears. It is true that there is brokenness of all sorts in your life. It is true that you despair at times. It is true that you feel forsaken by God in certain moments. But hold on to life and believe that his life is at work in your life—it is life that death has no hold on and which it cannot touch. One day, God will reward you for being true and faithful to him in the midst of your tough times.

Yes, life will come forth from ashes and people will awake and rise from the dust.

Therefore my friend, look beyond your present difficulties and troubles. “Your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”³ There is glory beyond the grave. Be courageous in your tough times and hold on to God for the Spirit of God shall give you strength. Oh, what a joyous day it’ll be when you meet God face to face and be with him for ever and ever!

“Put Out into Deep Water, and Let Down the Nets for a Catch.”

What if at the end of a hard night’s toil; you just have an empty boat? Isn’t it good enough reason to be depressed?

But then when Jesus is willing to step into the empty boat; will the nets return void? And when he says, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch,” you can raise a lot of objections; for you Simon Peter are an experienced fisherman in the sea of Galilee; aren’t you? And he is just a carpenter from the obscure town of Nazareth. Or isn’t he?

Is it positive thinking that what creates miracles? Or is it obedience to the voice of him who commands the winds and the waves?

But the greater miracle was not the miraculous catch of fishes.Instead it was Peter’s confession, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man.”

Isn’t that amazing?

Instead of striking a deep-sea fishing deal with a man who knew the seas better than he, Peter falls at Jesus’ knees. Worship is recognizing the worthiness of him who commands the winds and the waves. And in that process knowing my own unworthiness before his holiness.

The Master’s voice comes across to you today. “My child, have you been toiling hard? And are your boats empty? Do you really know what you need? Is it that you need a boat full of fish? I can give that to you. But is that what you really need? Or is it Me?”

And who is he?

He who angels worship;
before him demons trembled;
in him sinners found a friend;
the outcasts found mercy;
those who strayed met with compassion;
the sick found healing;
to the guilty, forgiveness was gifted;
he taught with authority;
the wild waves and stormy winds obeyed instantly and calmed;
death bowed down low and licked the ground at his feet;
as he triumphed over the grave
by his blood shed on the cross;
he opened heaven for all
who is willing to trust, obey, and follow him.

So, here is he standing across the sea watching you dock an empty boat and washing the nets which did not bring a catch saying, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”

Meet the Risen Christ Who Walks Along with You on Lonely Sunset Roads

Jesus Christ is risen from the dead. There stands before men and women no greater truth and hope than his life triumphing over death. And the good news is that he walks along with you on lonely sunset roads.

In that unforgettable walk the evening of his resurrection day, the Risen Christ joined with two men who were walking towards their village called Emmaus. But they were kept from recognising him.

The men were sad, their faces downcast. They were moving away from Jerusalem the scene of Jesus’ crucifixion. In their minds, Jesus was dead and gone. Their hopes about him had been dashed.

They had heard the joyous news that angels had broken to some women who had gone and seen the empty tomb that morning: “He is not here; he has risen.”

Yet these men did not believe even though they were amazed at the news.

But then in the walk towards their village as they listened to him open their minds to understand the truth written in the Scriptures that he had to suffer and then enter glory; their hearts burned within them!

By then the sun was setting. And Jesus acted as if he were going farther. But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us.”

If “abide with me” is your prayer this moment, Jesus will come in to your home however humble it is and to your heart however sad and broken it is.

And there will be a moment of recognition as it happened with those two men when they understood who their companion was when he took bread, gave thanks to God, and broke it for them.

Jesus immediately disappeared from their sight. But the men now had news to carry. They hurried back to Jerusalem at once with the news, “It is true. The Lord has risen.”

At the end of every lonely walk and darkness sunset brings; there comes in Jesus the Risen Lord to walk along with you. Let hope rise again in your hearts because this my friend is the great assurance that you have: The Risen Lord is with you!

Can You Make a Bolt for the Finish Line with Bricks on Your Head?

You might be the fastest sprinter in the world. Yet you won’t think of or ever imagine to run a 100 metres sprint at the Olympics or World Athletic championship finals with bricks on your head; will you?

But the sad thing is that in real life you are probably attempting to run life’s race and rush ahead with many bricks on your head. And what are these bricks? They are dead weights that slow down your progress.

And what are these dead weights?

The first one is definitely the baggage of your past. Your past might be full of mistakes you made and plenty of regrets you have. But they are to be left behind. Let the lessons you learned from them remain. Let those teach you humility. But never entertain the past and its baggage with the same dignity given to a foreign head of state paying an official visit to the country. So, leave your past behind.

The second dead weight is definitely negative habits you entertain. You might have struggled with them for years. You might have pledged to stop indulging in them many times. And especially every new year you might have taken the resolution to get out of that habit or habits pulling you down. But you might not have succeeded. Perhaps you need to be reminded that sometimes your resolve is not enough. Therefore, seek God’s help.

The third dead weight you carry is, worries of this life. Each day the news is getting bad and worse. There is not one day without some kind of negativity being heard. In spite of all the entertainment going on, bad news still makes its rounds. And you are worried. Especially about what the future is going to be. The only antidote to worry is trust in God.

Now what can you do about these three: baggage from your past, negative habits from your present and worries about your future?

The main thing is to renew your mind: Think on the finishing tape. Think of things that matters at the end. Refuse to worry. Say no to negative habits. And seek God’s help to wipe your past clean and give you a brand new beginning in life.

Life is a race. And you’ve to learn to discipline yourself and go into strict training to keep yourself ready for your best performance in the race. Those who run well avoid distractions and focus on the finishing tape. They throw away all bricks that weigh them down and run.

So many runners in the Olympics in its earliest form ran to win a wreath or a laurel that faded away. But God rewards for an eternity with a crown that does not perish, spoil or fade away. So be careful how you run life’s race. Run so as to win the prize. There is going to be rewards and joy at the end of the race if you do away with the bricks you are carrying today.

Three Quick Things to Do When You Are Tired of Living

Are you tired of living? If yes, there are three quick things you can do.

One, call out to God for help. You need not worry how he is going to answer your prayer. Instead what you need to believe is that God is able to help you and willing to help you.

No need to wait for the right moment. Now just call on his name. He will listen for he is compassionate.

Therefore the first thing to do if you are tired of living is to call out to God for help.

Two, believe in goodness ahead. It is easy to lose hope when you are under pressure constantly. That is quite natural. But when you wait for God to answer your prayer you need to look ahead to see God’s goodness stored for you.

When it comes, people who despised you and mocked you will see that is God who has shown you goodness. You too will know how troubles you faced moulded you to be prepared for the goodness which God had already prepared for you.

Therefore the second thing to do if you are tired of living is to believe in goodness ahead.

Three, do not entertain bitterness in your heart. It is true that words were painful when people stung you bitterly with their accusations and criticism. It is true that you faced pressure beyond your ability to endure. In spite of all this do not hold a grudge against those who hurt you.

That is not easy. Yet if you can try to see the hand of God orchestrating events, managing people, bringing situations to a crisis, and finally bringing you to that point where you are ready to live your true dream; then instead of bitterness your heart will overflow with gratitude to God.

Therefore the third thing to do if you are tired of living is to stop entertaining bitterness in your heart.

To conclude, the three things to do if you are tired of living are:
One, call out to God for help.
Two, expect goodness ahead.
And three, do not entertain bitterness.

My friend, this is not the time to give up or to quit. But it is the time to hope, to believe and to hold on.

Are You in the Habit of Postponing?

So many people dream about the perfect time to begin. It rarely happens. Though there are occasions when timing means everything; most of life is about doing things now. Do not postpone anything that you can do today and now. If you do it becomes a habit that is going to be difficult to break.

So how do you get out of the habit of postponing? Take a look at certain elements you need to keep in mind.

We are told not to worry about tomorrow. It means that we use the present opportunities. The right time to start is now. The secret is to start small. There should be a sense of urgency in getting things done.

Many people never start to do anything thinking of the bigness of the task ahead. It is wise to break the big task into small bits and work on each bit at a time. That makes the big work manageable. So many small acts done consistently over a period of time will yield better results than attempting to do a big thing all at once.

It is observed that when there is a flow of things happening you do your tasks well. But when there is a break a long gap follows. Each time you want to restart what you have been doing you feel a kind of inertia holding you back. And you wait for an appropriate moment to restart.

Instead of waiting for the right time, start immediately. The joy of doing what you have been doing well will return very quickly. You will also start to wonder why you waited so long?

Avoid too much thinking and too much planning. It can take away your initiative. Start to act now. And be prepared to make the needed changes as you go along. Pick up a project or plan you had shelved long ago. If you haven’t played your guitar for a long time now, just pick it up, wipe the dust and start strumming. The tune will follow. The melody will return. The power of acting now will ensure that you will be able to follow through.

So now is the time to take action. Get up and do something. And get rid of your self-defeating habit of postponing.

Worry steals away our valuable time. On the other hand planning helps to utilize time effectively. So many people dream of doing big things in life. This is mostly wishful thinking. Instead those who really want to do something meaningful in life make use of small chunks of time.

For effective utilization of time create good habits. Say No to all distractions. Work against deadlines and work towards your dreams and goals.

The greatest thief of time is procrastination. It is the thought that I will do it later. Sadly, tomorrow also the same pattern is repeated. Therefore keep in mind that time is the stuff life is made of and laziness is the lover that steals it.

Yet another enemy of time is the thought that my life stretches long ahead. But who knows what awaits you at the next turn. Many people marry laziness before they even grow up. Such people who sleep in the embrace of laziness won’t even realize it when the very bed they sleep on is snatched away from beneath them.

A man or woman of action plans and acts as if there is no tomorrow. They always audit how they are making use of available time today. One of the best ways to utilize time is to have a sense of purpose. Those who are sent on a mission never while away their time. They know they are on duty. They are conscious that many others are depending on them to do their assigned task well.

A simple way to manage time is to allot a chunk of time for a particular task you are attempting. That will compel you to plan how to use that time. The threat today to proper time management is our own slavish mentality towards mobile screens. It is a great stealer of time. So be aware and alert that time is the stuff life is made of and laziness in life and addiction to the mobile screen are lovers that steals it.

To those who regret time lost in the past and of having wasted their lives without doing anything worthwhile, there is an astounding promise of God to hold on to: “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten!”¹

Once again, let me remind all those who are regretting time lost in the past, hold on to this astounding promise of God: “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten!”

Motivational Speech: You Can Rise Up in God’s Strength Today!

You can rise up in God’s strength today. This message is for you who think you are a failure in life.

Dear friend, you might have regrets in life. There are many wasted opportunities and many things you wish you could have done differently; isn’t that so?

Do not despair. There is still hope. For God is with you and for you. The only thing he demands is that you trust in him.

And when you trust in him you can rise up in God’s strength today. This is possible for four important reasons:

One, God is a God of compassion. He loves you. He understands the pressures you are facing in life. Even when others criticize and despise you, God sees your potential. He wants you to rise up and soar on wings in his strength today.

Secondly, God is a God of second chances. He doesn’t count you a failure even when you fail multiple times. He believes in your willingness to keep trying. Even if your efforts are imperfect God delights in you and gives you second chances to make it successful in life. Yes, he wants you to rise up in his strength today.

Thirdly, God is the master of creating opportunities. It doesn’t matter if all doors are closed. You go and keep knocking. In unexpected ways and from unexpected sources doors will open for you. So do not lie down in despair. Get up and rise up in God’s strength for opportunities will come to you.

Fourthly and finally, remember that with God nothing is impossible. The only thing that matters is whether in God’s eyes something that you desire is good for you or not. If it is God’s will for your life do not look at the impossibility. But put your hope in God. He is bigger and stronger than all the giants you are facing at the moment. So believe that you can rise up in God’s strength today.

My dear friend, don’t look back at your past and lose hope. Do not despair. There is forgiveness with God. He wants you to rise up in his strength. He will rebuild your life once again. The faults and cracks, mistakes and failures, regrets and opportunities lost will all bow down to the absolute Lordship and leadership of God in your life.

Therefore there is no moment to waste. Do not wallow in self-pity. Look to God. Put your hope in him. And rise up in God’s strength today.

4 F’s That Make Life What It Is

Life is made of 4 F’s. These 4 F’s make life what it is: They are Faith, Family, Finance, and Friends.

The first F is Faith. Without faith in God it is impossible to find meaning in life. Of course, there are people who claim not to believe in God. I respect their freedom to do so. But life on earth is no accident. Therefore it has a purpose. And faith in God can help you realize that purpose.

The second F is Family. All of us are born into a family. Of course there are many who are less fortunate and are orphaned early in life. Now the divinely ordained instiution of family has undergone many changes in the last few decades. Yet in spite of all that has changed, the family is where we learn the first lessons of being loved and cared for.

The third F is Finance. Money is not everything in life. Yet money is needed for meeting the basic necessities of life. Therefore one has to learn to earn money through honest hard work. One has to learn to be wise and prudent in spending and investing money. Greed can make you blind to the more important values in life and can make you lose compassion to others.

The fourth F is Friends. There is a wider circle than our immediate family that makes an impact in our lives. Even though it includes many, there are few who stand with us in all our needs and moments of difficulty. They are your friends. There might not be many, but only few who will have your best interest in mind. Value and cherish them.

So let me conclude. The four F’s that make life what it is are: Faith, Family, Finance, and Friends. Faith in God, love in the family, faithfulness with one’s finances, and fun with friends are what makes life what it is.

Have a Glimpse of Heaven

We all long to have a glimpse of heaven. Here is how heaven is going to be like:

Heaven is the home of God the Father. It is a real place. He awaits his children to arrive there. Meanwhile preparations are on for welcoming them home. What a joy when life’s race is over and you touch the finishing tape. You wake up to a new morn—a glorious beginning that will never end.

Heaven is a place of joy. It is a place where God will wipe away all tears from your eyes. No more death or mourning or crying or pain. I tell you it is not the boring kind of entertainment that you get on earth. Heaven is joy unspeakable and full of glory.

Heaven is where Jesus is. He said that he is the way. He said that in his Father’s house there are many mansions. And he is going to prepare a place for those who believe in him. One day he is going to come back to take us there. Amazing, isn’t it? God wants to share his home with us brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ.

Heaven has music. Never-ending praises will be sung to God. Hallelujah’s (which means Praise the LORD) and Amen’s (which means so be it) will resound. Multitudes from every tribe and language and people and nation will join the angels in singing songs of praise to the Lamb of God who shed his blood to save men and women from spending an eternity in hell.

Now the question is how soon will all this become real to us?

I hope most of you have seen Umpires calling “Time” during tennis matches. That trumpet call will sound from heaven soon. Earth will give up her dead. Books will be opened. Each man will have to give account for his life before God’s judgement seat.

And then those whose names are found in the Lamb’s Book of Life will live with God for ever. Others who never accepted God’s offer of life while living on earth will be thrown into the lake of fire from which there is no escape!

Sounds too narrow-minded; isn’t it? I cannot find fault with you for thinking so. But the truth is that Jesus said the way to heaven is narrow. This is what he said. “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it (Matthew 7:13, 14 Bible).”

Heaven, my friends, is not open by popular vote. It is open only for those who enter through the way of the cross. For it was on the cross that God came near to man like never before. That was where God put the punishment due to me and you for all our sins on his own beloved Son Jesus. That was where he shed his precious blood for us. And when we look to him in faith, he welcomes us home to heaven!

Speech on How to Make Studies Interesting for Your Children

Children love to play. Studies are boring to them. But they need to study anyway. And here are some tips to make studies interesting for children.

The first step to make studies interesting for children is to make them believe in a dream. Often parents would love to impose their dreams on children. Sometimes it works out; but often it might not. If parents can try to understand the talent, passion, and ambition of the child, they can possibly help him or her understand in what area of life he or she will excel in. And then tie their studies to that dream.

The second step to make stduies intersting for children is to make them have a learning methodology which is fun. Just for an example, what if questions are asked in a professional quiz format with audio visual rounds and other stuff it is made of and rewards given at the end! Or what if the child is asked to take a class to parents or siblings on the topic studied in as creative ways as possible! Teach your children how to make an attempt at inter-disciplinary learning early in life by showing them analogies from other branches of study.

The third step to make studies interesting for children is to help them understand the importance and habit of preparing summary notes from the texts they learn from. The notes can include their own version of shorthand, symbolic representations, tree diagrams, flow charts and so on. Along with that they should be taught how to effectively retrieve information from these notes taken. This resource can be time-saving as well as enable scoring of high marks in examinations.

The last step and perhaps the most important step is to never compare your child with anyone else. Not even their siblings. This is absolutely negative, destructive and of no use. Give allowances for mistakes and failures. And keep on affirming that you believe in your children and that they will come up in life with flying colours.

One day they will make you proud with their achievements and thank you for believing in them.

It is indeed a moment of great joy this evening. I stand here with an immense sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. This musical reality show that stole the hearts of millions of people worldwide is coming to its grand finale tonight.

The entire last year; viewers especially Malayali communities across the globe had tuned in every night to not only watch this vibrant program but also support and encourage the child prodigies who had delighted us with their wonderful singing and dancing and interactions with judges and audiences.

We have here with us a well-known and eminent panel of judges. They are names that are synonymous with the music world and the film industry. Their rich experience and their connect with audiences is without parallel. Welcome you all to this grand finale.

Of course, here on my right stand the ten finalists. They are all familiar faces to all of you. What a thrilling musical journey they had had. The tremendous improvement they have shown over the last one year is phenomenal. They have mesmerized us on many nights with their unbelievable singing.

They are not only talented but also disciplined. They have showed us world-class performance. And I take this opportunity not only to welcome them to this finals but also wish them the very best.

To my left are seated the orchestra team. What a wonderful team they have been. Without their enthusiastic support and extraordinary skill with their respective instruments, this musical show could not have come this far. Welcome you all to this finale.

And finally the privileged members of the audience watching this show live and millions of viewers watching on television, welcome.

Look ahead to a memorable night that shall long remain in your minds for its fantabulous display of musical talent, the fierceness of the competition, the agony and tears of elimination, the joy and ecstasy of success. Lead Us O LORD from Darkness to Light

Hope rises in every human heart even as light shines. Therefore “Lead us O LORD from darkness to light,” has been a prayer in the lips of many for centuries.

Light conquers darkness—whether it be the darkness of ignorance or the darkness of evil or the darkness of fear; it is the nature of light to conquer darkness.

Light brings hope. A world that has become so busy with even Nano seconds¹ being taken into account has no room for failures and those who despair. But light brings hope to even those rejected and broken and marginalized.

Light shines knowledge. Ignorance can imprison people. It can chain people in superstitions, lies and deceptions. And it is the truth of knowledge that can break these chains and set people free.

Light spreads. It is impossible to conceal light and perhaps it is foolishness to attempt to do so. Therefore no one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; but puts it on its stand that it may give light to everyone in the house.²

Yes my friends,
Light conquers darkness.
Light brings hope.
Light shines knowledge.
Light spreads.

And once upon a time there walked on this earth One who embodied all these. He said: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”³

About him, his beloved disciple John wrote: “In him was life, and that life was the light of men.”

Yes dear friends, the greatest of all that light is; is that light gives life. It conquers death by its life-giving power. Therefore let us continue to pray, “Lead us O LORD from darkness to light.”

In Search for the Truth

Right from a child’s wonder as to who made the stars to a philosopher’s explanation of the meaning of life there is in every human heart an yearning to search for the truth.

On the other hand; a world of entertainment, wonders of the world of technology, and the worries of daily living drown and suppress people’s active pursuit of the search for the truth.

If truth can be found through exercise of the intellect and pursuit of knowledge, an illiterate person living in the forest and has not been exposed to the ideas of the world has no chance ever to know the truth. Therefore truth cannot be the exclusive claim of intellectuals alone.

If truth can be found through men and women’s search for the meaning of life, it might not be a complete understanding because his or her circumstances will certainly colour his or her painting of life.

The question therefore is whether truth is abstract or concrete? Truth, if it has to be within the reach of all, has to be made plain for all to understand. In that sense truth came to us when Jesus was born a child. God came down to us not to judge, accuse, or condemn but to save.

But many people act like how the Roman governor Pilate did when he asked the question “What is truth?”¹ to Jesus standing trial before him. But he did not wait for an answer.

And again truth was on public display when Jesus lay hanging on the cross and bleeding to death. The truth that all men and women deserve to be punished for their rejection of God was proclaimed by this act of God. BUT, the truth that God is showing mercy to all who would believe and receive him by placing their punishment on Jesus was a greater proclamation.

Thus in Jesus we find God showing us the truth—the truth about who God is: that he is merciful and compassionate and willing to forgive your sins however great they might be.

Therefore truth is not abstract. It is found in him who claimed: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”² Look to him and you’ll find meaning in your search for the truth.

Move Forward with Courage

A new year with many unknowns. Eager expectations on one side. Worry and anxiety on the other. How can I move forward with courage? is the question that might dominate your mind at this time.

Do not fear. God never asked you to walk alone or shoulder all the burden by yourself. He is willing to help you and guide you. Simply trust that he has your good in mind as you move forward.

The overflowing waters which stand as a major obstacle preventing your progress will separate to reveal a way forward when you boldly step into the waters. It will not happen if you stand on the bank wondering how it will be accomplished.

The dry ground in the midst of the waters will be revealed only when you take the first step forward in faith. It is not by logic that it happens but by obedience to God’s command to you to step into the surging waters.

Impossibilities like what you are probably facing now are gateways to the land of the giants. You can look at them and be frightened or trust in God’s assurance, “I am with you, ” and find victory. But remember that there is no victory without battles.

Therefore look ahead to the New Year realistically. Much awaits to be accomplished. Old mindsets have to be left behind. And your mind has to be renewed. It was unbelief that defeated you so far. Now trust in God and believe you can.

It is then that the way forward will open up before. March forward and step by step claim your ground. If at any moment you falter and fall, look to God and rise up and move forward to victory.

Luck, Chance, or the Hand of God?

Do not call luck or chance when God acts on your behalf. For there is that guiding hand of God moving people to help you in your difficult times.

It is easy to dismiss God’s providence as chance. It is like saying that the earth began with a big bang.

See, God acting on your behalf is not advertised. He doesn’t blow a trumpet to announce that he is making things work for you. Often what God does, happens behind the scenes. You need to believe that even when nothing seems to happen your prayers have been heard and your tears have been seen and preserved.

Then again, you need to anticipate and be ready for what God is going to do in your life. As it is popularly said you need to carry an umbrella when you pray for rain. It is unwise to remain idle when the Bible points out the wisdom of the ant which stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.

Beyond being active with what your hands can do at the moment, you need to believe that God can do immeasurably more than all that you can ask or imagine. To have it happen that way you need to have patience to wait for God’s time. And you need to have the humility to ask God to do what is best in his eyes for you.

Finally, a thankful heart is what you need to recognize the hand of God in your life. At the end of life’s journey when you look back you might recognize that several people who crossed your way at the right time were God-sent.

And today do not be ashamed to testify before others that it was God who performed wonders and miracles for you. And those wonders and miracles don’t happen by chance. If you look at an embroidered piece of cloth you will not make any sense of what is being done if you watch the process from the underside; will you?

But you will know that it is a wise hand is working out the design. Blessed are you if you have learnt to recognize that hand in your life as the hand of God threading the various colours to a work of splendid art!

You Can Find Success God’s Way

If you ask people what brings success, you will hear a lot of answers like hard work, perseverance, luck, ambition, and a host of other factors. But King Solomon had something higher to add: “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”¹ This is how you can find success God’s way.

First of all, he asked us to commit to the LORD. It calls for trust. It implies that you give something over to someone for keeping it safe, watching over it, and seeing that it is well taken care of. When you entrust something like that to the LORD you stop worrying about it because it is in safe hands; don’t you? That is step number one to find success God’s way.

Secondly, whatever you do should be committed. If God is just asked to put a signature at the end of your plans you are sadly mistaken. For when you commit something to God, it also means that you ask God first for his wisdom and his will in that regard. And when your plans move accordingly, he will be able to bless. That is step number two to find success God’s way.

Thirdly, God counts success very differently. You can be a failure in the eyes of the world but be a success in God’s eyes. When the world counts money, power, fame, influence, possessions and even a YouTube video going viral as success; God measures success against your faithful stewardship of resources entrusted to you. Seeing success as God sees it is step number three to find success God’s way.

To conclude, God loves to see you succeed. In God’s terminology that reads, God loves to see you bear fruit. Well, a branch of a grapevine doesn’t wriggle and struggle and move here and there to produce fruit; does it? It simply remains in the vine; isn’t it?

And remaining in the vine can be understood as a personal and growing relationship with God. And like a true vinedresser God might prune you²—that is, he might discipline you-–so that you may bear more fruit.

God takes his own time with the process. He is patient. He reduces you to less so that you’ll bear more. He cuts you down so that your trust will be in him alone. All that he does with you is not without purpose; but with the aim of making you succeed. Therefore, rise up from your bed of despair! You can have hope that you’ll certainly find success God’s way!

The Promise of the Comforter

Jesus in his farewell address to his disciples promised them the gift of another comforter or helper like him to be in them and with them.

Imagine that night. In a few hours from the time he spoke, he would be betrayed with a kiss and arrested. All of his best friends would be scattered. One of his best men would deny knowing him. Suddenly the lives of his closest friends were going to be disrupted.

Then would come his hour of bleeding to death on the cross. His flock of sheep would lose their shepherd.

But there was this promise—the gift from the Father in heaven. The Comforter: A guide to show you the way forward, a counsellor to give you wisdom, a helper to give your inaudible sighs and groans a voice that will surely be heard by God, and when you fail and falter and fall down an advocate to plead your case with God. He truly is Someone called to come alongside to help when you are in need of him.

Awesome friend to be with you always is he! He makes Jesus real to you and makes the words of the Bible come alive and speak to you.

You’ll never be left alone. God will never be far away; but in you. You can always know his presence because this Comforter—the Holy Spirit—is with you.

Gentle like a dove, mighty like a wind, and burning to death from your life all that is not pleasing to God; he always points you to Jesus. And he says, “Look to him!”

What a joy it is when he is within you. He is the one who helps you experience the great love of God for you, and he is the one who gifts you the peace that Jesus promised.

Yet again his is that gentle warning when you are about to do wrong; he sorrows and grieves when a child of God strays from what is right and sins!

Yet when you turn back to God he holds you close like a hen gathering her chick under her wings or like a mother comforting her child. He is in the business of blazing truth in your hearts. When he walks with you, you cannot keep company with darkness but you can only walk in the light!

The Comforter—God within us! Gently wooing you to fall in love with God. Aren’t you feeling that nudge in your heart?

Oh, what a joy it is when the comforter has come; when the comforter has come!

Online Exams for Young Children and Fashionable Cheating

Online classes have changed the way children learn. It has also given rise to the practice of fashionable cheating. It is considered smart; but is it?

Many parents without second thoughts help students, especially young children with answers. And children get good marks. Parents are proud and children are happy.

But what are the consequences of this?

First of all, truth no longer has any weightage in the mind of the child. He or she is shown by example that it is ok to cheat by his or her parents who are most likely their primary role models. In this situation, how can you expect a child to grow up without resorting to greater malpractices in future?

Sadly, honesty is the best policy will remain in this growing up generation, a proverb to be recited and not to be practised.

Secondly, children will grow up thinking that getting full marks is quite easy if one is smart enough to invent ways to cheat. He or she will never be able to appreciate an objective evaluation whenever that happens. A child under the present fashionable cheating contexts grows up with no understanding of how to cope with mistakes, failures, criticism, rejection and unfavourable comparisons too.

Sad to say, a child grows up with a false estimate about one’s own intelligence and academic knowledge.

Thirdly, parents need to remember that children will grow up soon. They will learn to stand on their own feet. The Internet will become a gateway for them to a virtual world where one’s safety depends much on self-discipline. A child growing up learning fashionable cheating will soon master the craft of doing more tricks online that can bring real heartache for everyone concerned.

In all earnestness let me say that then it will be too late to correct.

Finally, what many parents are not aware of is that online video conferencing or online classes are tricky. Sometimes there can occur unexpected bugs. While they think that audio is mute, it actually might not be. When they help children write exams the instructions they give and the answers they whisper to their children are all heard by many. Many teachers might even be able to know which child is being helped. In this context, does fashionable cheating sound nice to you?

Let me conclude by saying that it is ok for parents to desire that their child get good marks and full marks whenever possible. But let that happen without sacrificing character and integrity, truth and honesty; for these are the essentials for a solid foundation for their child’s future. So dear parents, say No to fashionable cheating during online exams for the sake of your children.

You Can Bounce Back from a Defeat Always

It is written in the Bible:

Hey, you can bounce back from a defeat always. Bouncing back from a defeat is not an option but a must for all who wish to succeed. You must always keep a burning desire within your heart to push forward, maybe inch by inch, and edge onward towards victory.

My dear friend, a defeat is not a dead end. It is not a showstopper. It doesn’t have a life of its own unless you inflate it like a balloon and make it big in your mind. A defeat might look like a giant having made a fortified city on the mountains, but look at it as a hurdle kept and preserved to make your conquest all the more glorious.

You should never stay comfortable in the valley of defeat. That is where dry bones lie. You should get up, leave behind your past, pray to the Spirit of God to come and breathe life to your vision and press on to victory. If there is some known cause in your life that is causing your defeat time and again, search it out, bring it out in the open, seek God’s help and get rid of it. Eliminate it.

It can be lethargy, complacency, laziness, worry or anxiety, or even a negative habit that is pulling you down. Your love for self-pity, airing victim stories of helplessness, and analysis paralysis of indecision; they all should be disarmed and discarded like a dirty piece of clothing if you have to bulldoze to victory.

Time does not wait for those who rehearse and play back a defeat in their minds. Look up and aim for the summit. When you focus sharply on that one aim and goal and ambition and passion, all lesser things will fade out. The Spirit of God will fill you with strength to rise up and soar on wings like eagles.

There is no reason why you should remain a loser and there is nothing to prevent you from bouncing back but your own doubts. Life can be lived in the valley of defeat or in the plain of daily routines or on the mountain tops. You might be lonely out there at the top and no one might be there to share your joy.

But you will not be alone because God is there where the skies kiss the mountain tops to bless you with his presence and give you the vision for your life forward.

Therefore decide to break out from self-imposed prisons of defeat. And with God’s help bounce back from that defeat you think you can’t break out from. When the Spirit of God moves like a mighty wind in your life; there is sure strength and resource needed for that leap forward.

I love you!
These are the words that has made many buds bloom, made many birds chirp and flap their wings in delight, and has painted mesmerizing loveliness in soft pastels.

I love you!
These are the words that has brought a look of starry wonder, a twinkling delight, and tears of joy to one’s eyes. It has been music to many ears and resonated back a deep sense of thankfulness at being accepted, loved, and cherished.

I love you!
These are the words that had begun a lifetime of companionship, abiding friendship, and long walks through beaches holding hands until the glowing sunset brought in the dark.

These are words that have made countless songs, melodies and symphonies, been the theme of many epic and panoramic movies, and have initiated jealousies and wars in the hearts of men and women.

These are words that will continue to be spoken, continue to be cherished, continue to inspire, and continue to ignite, as long as hearts are wedded in love until the skies and the earth shall be no more.

Be Ready—the End of the World Is Near!

Be ready! You just need to look around titles of Hollywood movies¹ to know how much end times and the end of the world influence thinking of popular fiction.

The Bible declares that the present world is reserved for burning with fire and a time is coming when elements will melt in the intense heat. The possibility of a nuclear warfare can make this come true even as God’s Judgement Day will burn like a furnace.

Jesus also spoke about hell as a fiery furnace where there will be continual weeping and gnashing of teeth, torment, and consciousness that makes anyone there cry out desperately for a drop of water to cool the tongue because of the agony of the fire!

Well, the Day of Judgement is not popular. People will feel like laughing at those who proclaim it. But if Christmas is the remembrance of the birth of Jesus, then the Day of Judgment is about his second coming when he comes to judge the people of the world for all their wicked thoughts, words, and deeds.

When the love of God towards men and women is spurned, mocked, rejected, and rebelled against; nothing else remains but for the wrath of God² to fall on them. It’s a kind of invited disaster. Yes, the end of the world is near!

Jesus himself asked the religious leaders of his day: “You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.” At a later time he wept over the city of Jerusalem thinking of the future judgement coming on the city saying that they did not recognize the time of God’s coming to them.

The world is moving towards a one world order where there is going to be a one world economy and a dirty marriage of politics and religion. Trade will be the lynchpin on which everything revolves as the world is slowly converging towards the mark of the beast 666 as prophesied in the Book of Revelation. And it is related to who you will worship—whether God or Satan? Permission to buy or sell will be granted according to this choice you make.

Natural disasters like earthquakes and floods, famines and pestilences, wars and revolutions, signs in the sun and moon and stars, pollution, global warming, tsunamis, and pandemics are but signposts reminding us time is running out for Planet Earth.

Therefore great is the urgency to decide your destiny. Life on earth is a chance given to you to get to know your Creator and the salvation he has provided to all freely through his Son Jesus through the blood of his cross.

If you look to him in faith, then you find peace with God. Many have postponed this life-changing encounter with the Son of God only to find the sun go down on them to rise on them no more!

Promise of New Year Resolutions and Its Heartbreak ?

New Year is a time of promise of a bright future ahead. It is a time you love to leave behind the baggage of the past and take new resolutions for the year ahead. So far so good.

But experience has taught us that New Year resolutions are broken sooner than expected in spite of all the good intentions behind them. And it is heartbreak time then. And giving up all as lost when promises are broken.

One thing you should never forget is that in our unending quest for ideal beginnings in life we wait to the end of the year postponing every good thing we could have attempted. Many opportunities are lost in this kind of waiting.

Instead of waiting for the New Year to come, why not start today with your resolutions. Attempt something you always wanted to do. Begin small. Even when you fail start again. That is the true promise of life.

Achievements and success is not to be seen as destinations and the end of our journeys. Instead see attempts and failures as the real cornerstones of success.

So start today and now. Do not delay. Be realistic that there will be failures and setbacks. But be determined to bounce back. Enjoy the process. And then you will have a beautiful journey ahead.

Do not wait for the New Year. In spite of all the hype and promise about welcoming a New Year it is a deception as far as resolutions are concerned. Do not believe the lie that something magical is going to happen the first day of the year. It can happen or it might not happen.

But if you trust God, and believe in him for your future; today is the best day and now is your opportunity. The promise the Bible declares is that God’s compassions never fail and they are new every morning¹.

So get up and start to put your dreams to reality. By the time New Year comes around, you would have far advanced than most of those who chose to sit and watch and wait!

No man or woman will live long enough to consume even an infinitesimal fraction of all that is on YouTube. What Better Hope in Life Do You Have Than This?

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead stands as a gateway of hope to all mankind. In him is found the bridge from death to life.

What does his resurrection; that mighty demonstration of God’s incomparably great power, mean to us today? It means that God’s power has brought to our lives a better perspective, a better attitude, and a better certainty.

A Better Perspective

The resurrection of Jesus Christ challenges us to see life through a larger frame. If death is not the end of life and there is a beyond; then surely life on earth is a preparation. The longest years on earth are but a drop in the vast ocean of timelessness that awaits man beyond life’s final curtain. So let us see life in the perspective of eternity.

A Better Attitude

The resurrection of Jesus Christ challenges us to live life on a higher plane: To have hope instead of despair; to have joy in difficult times; to be courageous even in defeat; to find acceptance in God’s love when others reject; to persevere in faith, and to step out free from fears that hold us prisoners. So let us put on this new attitude and “soar on wings like eagles!”

A Better Certainty

The resurrection of Jesus Christ challenges us not to be uncertain any more.

He came to “free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death,” by tasting death for everyone. This he did on the cross where he shed his precious blood for the sins of all.

And having tasted death, he came back to life; for it was impossible for death to hold the Author of life, Jesus Christ, the sinless One, the Son of the living God.

Yes, the resurrection of Jesus Christ has destroyed death’s dominion forever. Therefore the gateway of hope stands open. “The earth will give birth to her dead”; “Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake,” and those who had put their trust in him will enter into the joy of unending life!

In conclusion, let me tell you that:

Ultimately, the resurrection of Jesus challenges us to answer the question “Where am I headed to?” Is it to heaven? Or to hell? Like a fork in the road he stands, asking you to repent and choose life. The gate is small and the road, he said, is narrow. But it leads to eternal life.

Christmas Is for Failures Like You and Me

Many miss Christmas because they think it is a festive season. When in fact it is God’s treasure hunt for failures like you and me.

He could have stayed in heaven and watched us toil and struggle hard to make both ends meet. But he chose to come and be part of us to sweat and labour.

He who flung 100 thousand million stars in the Milky Way¹ could have spread a mattress of soft silky wool; but chose a cattle shed and a manger for his birth on earth. There was no room for him elsewhere.

The birth of Jesus is not a historic moment in Bethlehem alone; but because he lives, time and again it happens in dirtied and broken hearts of those who feel it unworthy to invite him in.

Jesus does not ask how you messed it up all in life. He knows that already. But what he is asking now is whether you are willing to come to him?

See, blood flowed from his broken body on the cross. It has the power to cancel all your sins and give you a clean new start in life.

Your failures don’t matter if you only come to him. For he made it clear that he came for sinners like you and me. He came searching for failures in life like you and me.

Yes, there is hope for you because of Christmas; and because Jesus came. He understands you better than you know yourself. This is the meaning of Christmas—that in Jesus you have a Friend for ever!

Elocution Competition Topic: Social and Humanitarian Changes Brought by the Pandemic Covid-19

Pandemic Covid-19 has changed the global landscape completely. It has made us realize how unpredictable life is. I would like to focus today on the social and humanitarian changes brought about by the pandemic.

The first change that has been effected by the pandemic is social distancing. There is an increased awareness of keeping oneself safe while going about one’s daily routines and businesses. Wearing of masks has become the norm while fashion statements are made through them too. Normal social greeting like handshake has disappeared while smiles are hidden by the masks we wear.

The next change brought about by the pandemic is the isolation and confinement it has brought on the elderly as well as little children below ten years. Many elderly people are now unable to meet their kith and kin due to travel restrictions and the need to stay at home. Children who are used to grow up playing with friends, going to school and having an outing in the park or beach find themselves totally imprisoned within the four walls of their homes. This can seriously affect their socializing and making friendships beyond their immediate neighbourhood.

Again we find classes going digital. It has brought with it possibilities as well as challenges. There are small segments of the student community who do not have access to internet and unable to buy proper gadgets required to continue studies. At the same time geographical boundaries now do not prevent you from taking a course on the area of your interest from esteemed massive open online course provider aimed at professional adults and students like Udemy for example.

Another change we cannot forget is how the definition of work has changed. With the aid of technology Work from home (WFH) has been effectively implemented. It has been prominent in the IT sector. Work from home has created much stress as people are made to work more and be available on duty for more than normal working hours. Reduction of local as well as international travel related to work is also part of the change.

We also need to remember how wedding ceremonies and the way funerals are conducted have changed as a result of the pandemic. We need to see the fact that many top brands have faced a decline in sales as people started to rethink on the futility of displaying the pride of life through brand statements they made.

On the humanitarian side we have a new awareness of how sacrificially medical and paramedical staff including doctors, nurses, volunteers, ambulance drivers etc. has stood along with us to fight the pandemic. We cannot forget the role of the law enforcing agencies which mainly consists of the police and their constant alert and vigilance which has helped us prevent rapid community spread of the Corona virus in many areas. We cannot forget the media which has played a critical role in raising awareness about the need of personal hygiene and the importance of simple hand washing using soap or sanitizers.

But the greatest challenge in the humanitarian front seems to be the plight of daily labourers. This includes, for example, auto drivers. Many people have lost their daily means of sustenance due to less business activities. Many businesses have closed. Any move to normalcy should take into consideration lending a helping hand to those put out of business by enabling them to have access to long-term loans and other infrastructure support.

We also need to seriously consider the attitude of people towards those once affected by Covid and then tested negative. These people should not be discriminated against and awareness should be created so as to how they can come to back to resume their normal life at home as well as in their careers.

Let me end by saying that Pandemic Covid has disrupted life globally. It has a many-sided socio-economic and humanitarian impact. We cannot expect Governments alone to handle the crisis. NGO’s and other organisations have a key role to play in rebuilding normalcy as far as it is possible. We all have a role to play.

Let us approach this situation with trust in God, with optimism and hope. Let us lend a helping hand to all who need it. And let us believe in the words of the old negro spiritual that we shall overcome, we shall overcome, we shall overcome some day, oh, deep in my heart, I do believe, we shall overcome some day! Thank you.
