To human eyes, the cross of Jesus looks like absolute failure. Yet the Bible says that “he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power” (2 Corinthians 13:4).
What looked like defeat became God’s greatest victory. The cross is therefore the very instrument God uses to transform your life through his victorious power.
To understand the greatness of the victory of the cross, we need to recognize that there are demonic forces of evil. The Bible clearly acknowledges their existence and the fact that we wrestle against these spiritual forces.
The cross was the climax of the evil that these spiritual forces worked through human agents. They crucified the Author of life (Acts 3:15), the Son of God.
Yet that very act became their defeat. The Bible says that Jesus disarmed the powers and authorities and triumphed over them by the cross. It also says that he cancelled the written record that stood against us and nailed it to the cross (Colossians 2:14–15).
What appeared to be Satan’s triumph was actually God’s decisive victory over sin and death—a victory fully declared when Jesus rose from the grave.
Hebrews 2:14 says that through his death, Jesus destroyed him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil. He was victorious over every spiritual power through his death on the cross, and his resurrection declared that victory.
Though it is not easy for us to understand, when you accept by faith the victory Jesus won on the cross, his risen power and living presence will begin to change your life. His shed blood on the cross brings peace between you and God (Colossians 1:20).
The change may not be overnight. It may not be sudden or dramatic. It may take time. Yet the more you understand that the cross is not failure but victory, the more you will experience its transforming power in your life.
Whatever your current struggles, remember this: in God’s eyes, you are never a failure when your trust is in the victory of Jesus.
