Sunday Sermonettes #104
The Bible tells us to pour out our hearts to God. Bring your emotions honestly to God rather than hide them from him. Then you can be authentic with God.
You can tell him your despair, bring to him your doubts, question why God is taking so long to answer, and cry out your disappointment. God is bigger than your emotions. But he seeks truth in your heart.
When was the last time you talked to God just like you open up to your best friend?
See, in today’s AI-driven world, even the way we think and speak is being changed. Sometimes without any of us knowing it.
AI gives us polished language. Polished language can create distance. There are layers of words piled upon one another. It takes away the honest warmth in communication. But with God, we don’t need polished language. Just talk to God like he is right beside you.
No formality. Are you afraid you will offend God if you talk like that? Try it out. You will find it very difficult to talk to him like a friend.
Why?
Friendship requires familiarity. To talk like that, you need to spend time with God. The more time we spend with someone, the less we feel the need to perform or choose elaborate words.
And a joyous surprise is that God knew that our words would not always be enough to tell him all that is in our hearts. So, when we don’t know how to express what we feel, the Spirit of God helps us in more ways than one.
Jesus taught us to call God our Father. The Spirit of God helps us come closer to God and have an authentic relationship with him.
The Spirit of God helps us cry out, “Abba, Father,” with great intimacy, boldness and freedom. That means even while you stand on earth, you have access to God’s throne of grace and his timely help.
Sometimes, the Holy Spirit gives us a different language altogether—a gift of the Spirit that goes beyond our human understanding, allowing us to speak to God when ordinary words fail.
Other times, when our minds and lips are too tired to speak at all, the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words, lifting up our deepest needs that even our loved ones cannot fully grasp.
So, pour out your hearts to God. Be authentic. Come to God with simple, honest words from your heart.
