I Am the Alpha and the Omega

No ordinary human being could make such a claim. Jesus did.

In Revelation, Jesus is revealed as the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. And He says, “I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever!”

He was there in the beginning. He will be there at the end. He is the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

When you trust Jesus, the Alpha and the Omega statement takes on fresh meaning.

You, in spite of all the difficulties you might be passing through, cannot be found outside these two brackets—the Alpha and the Omega. Your beginning was known to God, and he knows where you are headed.

In other words, when you feel like God is far away in your situation, Jesus saying, ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ can be an anchor that will hold you steady.

God has counted the very hairs on your head. He knows your thoughts and motives.

And he will carry to completion the good work he has begun in you.

Therefore, since He is the Alpha and the Omega, the promises of God take on new meaning. Because He lives forever to intercede, the promises of God are backed by Jesus praying for you. What comes between the beginning and end is not left to chance. Jesus is living for evermore. Right now, He is praying for you.

He has not left you alone in life’s struggles. He has engraved you on the palms of his hands. The nails that pierced him could never break the you-in-him and he-in-you union—an unbreakable relationship sealed in his precious blood and marked by the Holy Spirit given to you.

There is an overwhelming assurance of God’s sovereignty in that one statement: “I am the Alpha and the Omega.”

Jesus is asking you to turn your focus away from life’s chaos and confusion, whether in your personal circumstances or global events. Those can bring fear and strike terror in your heart. The more you focus on these roller-coaster experiences, the more they can drive you to despair.

Instead, remember the risen Jesus. The Jesus who once commanded calm over the raging waters and told the howling winds to obey him is with you.

That calls you to worship the Son of God who bled and died for you and lives for ever.

For at the end of all human history, the whole universe finds Him alone worthy to take the scroll sealed with seven seals which no one else could open.

Therefore, join with all creation to sing His praises and worship Him:You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.

Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and praise.

To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honour and glory and power, for ever and ever.

Amen. Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honour and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!

Jesus. KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

He is the Alpha and the Omega—the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
