Sunday Sermonettes #077

Introduction
Some mornings you and I wake up with a heavy heart. There is a burden you can’t name; fears that grip your heart; worries that you don’t know how to drive away. I have been there many times. And I found hope in a Name: the bright morning star. It doesn’t mean all your troubles will vanish. But it speaks of a certain hope that can hold you together when everything else, even life, feels like it’s falling apart. Here is a short reflection on finding hope when the night feels long.
The Promise of the Morning Star
Jesus said, “I am the bright morning star.” Seen towards the very end of the last chapter of the Bible (Revelation 22:16), this title gains greater significance.
The pain of night and deep darkness will pass and give way to the warmth and cheer of light when the bright morning star rises in your heart.
Finding Light in Your Darkest Hour
It is a picture of great hope and joy too. The morning star appears when the night is darkest. It also signals the arrival of dawn. The fears of the night will give way. For the presence of his bright and shining light is coming.
Think of all the heartbreaks you have passed through. Think of all the sleepless nights. Think of the troubles that came upon you like wave after wave almost drowning you. Yet when you look to the glory of the bright morning star, the God of hope comes to you with power, l”ike a rushing stream driven by the wind of the Lord (Isaiah 59:19)*
Strength for the Spiritual Battle
My dear friend, you might have been tossed about by the many spiritual battles in your mind. You might have felt like giving up. The emotional strain of all the struggles might have drained you of all your enthusiasm and energy. But do not give up. For Jesus your bright morning star is coming.
Yes, this reminder, “I am the bright morning star,” is to instill courage and hope in you. It is to tell you that God will fight for you (Exodus 14:14). He will strengthen you and carry you safely through the battles you face. He is the one who will shield your head and protect you against all the accusing tongues and words spoken against you.
A Healing and Constant Guide
He is your true light. He will guide you. His is a healing light and he will bind up your wounds. In pitch darkness, when a light shines what hope it brings! Such is the light of the bright morning star, Jesus.
Therefore begin each day with renewed hope.
Choose hope when you feel like giving up. Choose hope when there is an army of troubles pursuing you from behind and when there is a sea in front of you that you cannot cross.
Just cling on to hope. There will be trouble but his presence with you will be your guiding light through it all. He will make a way for you and guide you, even when you cannot see the path forward.
Anchoring Your Hope in the Midst of Chaos
The most important lesson from Jesus the bright morning star is this: Look to him who has the kingly authority to change and transform your life situations. When unpredictable and sudden changes come and shake your world he will hold your hand and keep you strong.
In the midst of chaos and darkness, look up to Jesus, the bright morning star. He is coming back soon. He is the hope of all people. But till he returns in power and glory, majesty and authority; his light will steady your life in hope like an anchor, even when you are passing through stormy seas.
