Sunday Sermonettes #075

God Remembers
The Bible says that after the flood covered the earth for 150 days, “But God remembered Noah (Genesis 8:1).” Did God forget him in the first place? Not at all. When it says, God remembered Noah, it simply means the time came for God to act on his behalf.
It was God who shut him in (Genesis 7:16) inside the ark. Dear friend, when you obey God, as Noah did, there might come a time when you will be shut in. Don’t despair. God will remember you.
Noah’s Obedience
Noah’s obedience wasn’t easy. It was counter-culture. The whole world was wicked at that time. Only Noah was blameless. No doubt people mocked him while he made the ark which might have taken so many years.
No one had seen rain of the magnitude God said would come till then. And more than that Noah was building a huge boat on land. No one had any idea of what to expect. They continued to marry, give in marriage, eat, drink, and be merry. And sudden destruction came.
The Ark and Safety Inside
Only those inside the ark escaped. The ark is a place of safety. The Bible says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe (Proverbs 18:10). “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household (Acts 16:31).”
God had created the first family. In this worldwide sudden judgement he cared to save a family and rebuild the world through them. When you obey God, it is not just you but your family too who get a chance to be saved from everlasting destruction.
What Happens When God Remembers You
The flood came. But God remembered Noah. There might a period of darkness and uncertainty and unknowns surrounding you now. Yet if God has placed you in the midst of it, he will remember you.
God has his time. And he has a plan. The purpose might not be fully known to you. But that is where you trust and obey.
“Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark; then the flood came and destroyed them all.” Luke 17:26–27 (NIV 1984)
