Sunday Sermonettes | Worship God: Worthy Is the Lamb Who Was Slain

Sunday Sermonettes #087

The Need to Worship

The urge to worship is embedded in our hearts. If you don’t worship God, there is that vacuum in the heart that other things will fill. But to an honest seeker of God, here is a picture drawn of worship: Worthy is the Lamb who was slain!

Worthy Is the Lamb

Jesus, the Lamb of God, was crucified where he bled and died. That is always remembered as all heaven comes together to worship. Not a dead God, but One who is risen from the dead.

He was slain. But now reigning victorious. The song of heaven says he is the only One worthy to open the scroll sealed with seven seals.

Why? Because he was slain and with his blood purchased men from every tribe and language and people and nation. To be the children of God.

Why He Is Worthy

So my friend, here is worship you can truly participate in with your body, mind, soul, spirit, and all your heart and strength. Worship the One who is worthy because he was slain. Worship might not begin with emotion but with a deliberate effort to focus on him:

“You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth (Revelation 5:9–10).”

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise (Revelation 5:12)!”

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever (Revelation 5:13)!”

A Call to Worship

My dear friend, sometimes you and I are so distracted by our worries and anxieties of life that we find it difficult to worship God. So let this be one starting point. With all sincerity, even when you don’t feel the emotion, say it in your heart and with your lips: Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.

It was not only for the whole world but for you too that he was slain. Think on his indescribable love that willingly laid down his life for you.

And make your worship personal: Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, even as it echoes with the jubilant singing in heaven where all creation joins together in praise, adoration, acclamation, and worship.

Often worship is filled with music. There might be joyous melodies ringing in your heart.

Your body will also respond. You might lift up your hands, bow your head, tears of joy might flow down your face, you might kneel down, and even fall face down in worship. For you are worshipping the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Hallelujah. Amen.
