Sunday Sermonettes #089

God Desires Your Heart
What is God truly desiring in your life? Your heart or your hands?
Is it your love, or the things you do to earn his favor?
More than anything else, God is asking one question:
“Do you love Me?”
Your heart is what matters first to him.
We Love Because He First Loved Us
But is it really possible to love God?
First of all, we are simply responding to his love for us. The blood of Jesus on the cross is God showing his love to you.
St. Paul says, Jesus Christ “loved me and gave himself for me.”* St. John says that Jesus “loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.”*
You Can Come to God As You Are
Secondly, God is not asking you to become perfect before coming to him. Come just as you are, with your imperfect love. After all, God loved us even while we were sinners.
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).
Love Brings Change
Thirdly, love brings change. When you truly love someone, you naturally want to spend more time with that person.
It also means saying “no” to things that do not please the one you love. So what might God be asking you to say “no” to today?
Will You Seek God in Good Times Too?
Finally, God is looking to see whether you will come to him even when you are not in trouble.
Most of us cry out to God during difficult times. But what about the good times? When life feels calm and bright like gentle summer sunshine — is God still in your thoughts?
Start telling God, “I love You.”
In time, he will respond. He will gently show you the changes needed to make your love more sincere and pure in his sight.
God’s Love Knows No Barriers
This is not about religion. A person can love God from any culture, any background, and any corner of the world.
Love for God breaks barriers.
And never forget: God loves you.
Trouble may come, and life may change in many ways. But one thing remains sure — nothing can separate you from the love of God through Jesus Christ.*
So today, turn your heart toward God with a simple prayer: “Lord, teach me to love You more.”
Tell God you love him, and let his Spirit pour his love into your heart, filling you with a deeper love for him.*
