Sunday Sermonettes #085

When Doors Are Locked in Fear
The risen Jesus met his discouraged disciples as they hid in a room with the doors locked for fear. He does the same for you today.
The power of his resurrection is the very same power God is exerting in your life right now. It is powerfully at work within you to give you strength to move on in the midst of your life’s struggles.
When Fear Lingers
Sometimes, like the disciples, we tremble in fear even though we know that Christ is risen indeed. It takes time for the reality of the resurrection to truly sink in.
What is so comforting in this moment is that Jesus did not wait to be invited. He simply appeared—suddenly, without knocking. When you are discouraged and trembling in fear, the Risen Jesus comes to you to give you courage.
He Did Not Give Up on Them
His concern was for his brothers, his friends who were close to him. They needed him most.
These “failures,” unschooled and ordinary in the eyes of the world, would go on to turn the world upside down with the news that the One who was crucified, died, and was buried is risen indeed.
I am so thankful to God that Jesus did not give up on these men. He continued to invest in those who had deserted him in his hour of great trial.
He Meets Us Too
Sometimes we too fail and do not live up to his expectations. Yet the Risen Jesus meets with you and me.
When we fail, let us look to the risen Jesus who steps into where we hide in fear. He is reassuring us of his presence with us. The peace that he gives is for us to treasure and keep.
Sent Forward with Hope
He further commissions them to go out into the world with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, saying, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”
There is hope, for he lives to give us courage to move on despite our failures and fear.
