Sunday Sermonettes | Your Final Appointment Is Fast Approaching

Sunday Sermonettes #076

Everything happens at the speed of lightning these days. Or even much faster than the blink of an eye. No one stops to think. Everyone loves to be entertained. At this breakneck speed of events reeling our minds, have you ever thought about your final appointment, which is fast approaching? Eternity is often forgotten in your busy routines, but you cannot avoid it.

The Bible says, “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment. . .(Hebrews 9:27).” Judgment day is real. It is frightening. God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29), and it is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31). Is there an escape?

The cross of Jesus is God’s answer. His precious blood shed there is the only source of hope given:

“Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him (Hebrews 9:28).”

“For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:9).”

So those who believe in Jesus will not perish but have eternal life. This was the purpose of God’s love, which gave his Son Jesus on the cross.—so that all who believe will have an escape from eternal punishment and receive the gift of eternal life.

But your final appointment with death will come one day. No one knows when. It can be sudden, or it can come with some warnings. But you will have to face it alone if you leave God out of your life. Remember, “And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, . . . (Hebrews 9:27, ESV).”

It is so amazing that people strive to make their earthly matters secure but do not prepare to meet God. Life on earth is your opportunity given to decide where you will spend eternity.

After death, no choice—and no chance to repent (see Luke 16:26, where Jesus speaks about eternal separation).

Therefore, now is the time to seek God and to humble yourself before him. For your final appointment is fast approaching. Don’t wait until it’s too late.

Will you trust Jesus with your future today?

All Scripture quotes are from New International Version 1984 edition. ESV stands for English Standard Version.
