Sunday Sermonettes #074

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
What a lovely prayer of blessing it is: To fill what is empty. To supply what is lacking. To give above all that we can ask or imagine. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace.”
Why is this prayer important? It is important because we are troubled and tormented by our difficulties each day. The prayer helps us to focus on the God of hope.
It tells us that more than money, power, fame, influence, or education; we need hope to move forward in life. What a blessed thought it is to know that our God is a God of hope.
As we encounter hopeless situations in life, let us cling to the God of hope. The Bible strongly encourages and urges us to trust in Jesus. It is a continuous action.
It means to depend on God rather in oneself. It means that you believe in the promises of God to be true. And you rely heavily on them. It means placing your confidence in God and obeying Him, even when the future is unclear and the outcome is unknown.
Therefore let us lay hold of him and not let him go and keep trusting in him hope against hope. It simply means that in the reality of hopelessness we still cling on to the God of hope.
As we do so, it is God himself who will fill us joy and peace. It is not just a filling that God is satisfied with. He wants us to overflow with hope. The Person who will help us to do so is the Spirit of God himself.
When he acts it is like a mighty wind blowing or like a flooding of the river waters. It is exceedingly above normal. There is power. The impact is seen and felt.
As you face seemingly hopeless situations in life, may this prayer give your courage and strength. God is the God of hope. Those who hope in the Lord will not be disappointed. Those who will hope in Lord and wait for him will find renewal of strength and will rise high and soar on wings like eagles.
May God bless you with hope today. May it overflow as you experience the power of the Spirit of God. God moves in the hearts of those who poor in spirit. It means that we come to God empty; not having anything to be strong in ourselves. We go to him with broken hearts and feeling the full weight of the misery that is pulling us down.
As you trust in Him, God will move on your behalf. He will fill your heart with joy and peace, and by the power of the Holy Spirit He will cause your hope to overflow. He is the God of hope—believe it.
