Sunday Sermonettes | The Blood of Jesus Speaks for You: God’s Mercy

Sunday Sermonettes #070

When I heard an elderly lady tell another, “The blood of Jesus gives victory,” I thought it was superstition. I was young then. I thought how can people say such primitive things in this scientific age. But years later I understand differently. The truth is clear. The blood of Jesus indeed speaks for you God’s mercy and forgiveness. It is this understanding that makes me write these words.

It is not easy for the human mind or logic to understand how the blood of Jesus speaks. But God does not ask us to understand that. He simply is asking us to trust in faith the truth that the blood of Jesus speaks for you. And because it pleads on our behalf you can always find mercy and forgiveness with God.

Just go to God. Go near him. Do not think of your failures and sins as a barrier. Because you have the blood of Jesus speaking for you. Therefore you can approach God with freedom, boldness and confidence. Tell him, “Abba, my dearest Daddy, my Father, I come to you as your child.” Yes, he calls you his son or daughter.

Carry the guilt of your past sins, the burden of your present omissions, and the shame of all your failures to God. The blood of Jesus will not only free you from a guilty conscience but also make you friends with God again. For nothing on earth has power like the blood of Jesus to cleanse your heart and restore you to friendship with God.

Then you will find Jesus to be your brother and friend. But that is just a starting point. You can always seek to grow more in intimacy with God. Of course, it takes years to become great friends.

It is just like any other relationship. It takes time. But here, we do not go to God because we are perfect or sinless. Instead we go like children with broken toys, and bruises. We go sorrowing.

But we go knowing that we are most welcome at God’s presence because the blood of Jesus is the only basis on which we have an entry. And because the blood of Jesus speaks mercy and forgiveness on our behalf, you can just rush into his loving embrace in all the ugliness and mess you have made in life.

Yes, there is power, wonder-working power in the blood of Jesus as the chorus of a song says. See, the biggest mistake you and I make is to stay away from God when in distress, in trouble, in hardships, in suffering, in mental agony, in doubt, depression, or despair.

It is foolishness to stay away from God when you realize you have sinned. Go to him with your broken heart. He will accept you because the blood of Jesus speaks for you.
