When Christmas Came True for the Dying Thief on the Cross

Sunday Sermonettes #068

Well, Christmas and the cross doesn’t exactly match for happy holidays. But the Bible does say that Jesus bore our sins in his body on the tree. Perhaps it was not decorated like the ones we see for Christmas holidays; but it was made red and wet by his blood.

The Bible declares, “he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

The repentant thief on the cross looked at the bleeding Lamb of God and said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

And Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with in paradise.”

The thief passed on from death to life then, right at that moment. Because Christmas—finding forgiveness for his sins and having peace with God—came true for him right then.

The child born a King had won his love! And what about you?
