Sunday Sermonettes | One Is Greater than Ninety-Nine

I had not thought much about being lost until some days ago. And when I did all on a sudden the story of the shepherd leaving the ninety-nine in the fold and going searching for the lost one sheep dropped into my mind early morning like fresh dew of mercy from heaven.

It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or have been in the fold for years. It is possible to stray and be lost for so many reasons.

It doesn’t matter now for the Shepherd is not asking for all the reasons. Instead he is busy searching for you because you are his, because you belong to his family, because you are worth dying for.

When you feel worthless like a failure like you’re not going to make it; when you feel rejected and denied of your rights; when despair clouds your mind and doubts about God’s love for you hits you like a tsunami; and when your heart is broken because of sins and blunders you have made, look up from your pit of despair. There Jesus stands to lift you up; for he waves over you the banner of his everlasting love.

He is overjoyed that he has found you.  He will put you on his shoulders and carry you home.  Oh there is rejoicing. For you were lost but now found.  Yes, dear friend, God loves you. And in his Maths, you are greater than ninety-nine.

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” — Psalm 139: 23, 24.
